Steadfast

Steadfast is an adjective that means “very devoted or loyal to a person, belief, or cause : not changing” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

In present day society, there is little to no steadfastness in people, beliefs or causes. Many go through daily life without a sense of purpose or dedication for their life. And wonder what is happening in their lives when the promotion comes, relationship status change on Facebook or the dream home is purchased. The answer to the wondering question is that there needs to be an attainment to a higher purpose. I know there are individuals who preach the good feeling of life. However, I caution and encourage everyone to truly seek passion and purpose, not for mere feelings but for the betterment of society as a whole.

We must hold steadfast to family and true friends. We must hold steadfast to morally good beliefs. We must hold steadfast to fights for significant causes.

For me, the true feeling of steadfastness comes out of the feelings of not really wanting to do more than what is in front of me. Holding steadfast means being there when the tough times come calling. Being devoted and loyal when everything is good, sounds great. But when the lowly seasons in our lives come and seem to buy an extended stay package, we must hold on to what we belief. We often times preach about Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates. But, we forget about their struggles to make it to the top. The struggle I am referring to is that of staying true to oneself. Through working in garages, being passed for promotions and having the stocks of your company plummet, these individuals held steadfast to who they were.

I encourage those who are reading this blog to not grow weary in well doing. But, to continue to find and polish yourself because when your time comes, no one will be able to steer you wrong. A funny thing happens when you go through a struggle; you come out the other side with a level of confidence you will not learn in any book or vocation.
